API 5L DSAW Steel Pipes
DSAW stands for Double Submerged Arc Welded pipe. As the name indicates, these pipes are designed for deep-water applications and are engineered to withstand extreme underwater conditions. This pipe is named after its welding process. The API 5L DSAW Pipe conforms to API 5L specifications, covering both welded and seamless steel pipes, and is suitable for the transportation of gas, oil, and other petroleum products.
The API 5L DSAW Pipe is produced by submerging the welding arc in flux during the welding process. This flux protects the welded area, preventing impurities from entering the steel. The inside and outside walls are welded in separate operations, which is why the pipe is referred to as double submerged arc welded.
There are three primary types of DSAW pipes: those produced by rolled and welded method, the U & O method, and spiral welded pipes. The API 5L DSAW Pipe can be manufactured in very large diameters. The production involves forming steel plates into cylindrical shapes, rolling the edges to create V-shaped grooves, and then performing submerged arc welding to form strong, impurity-resistant bonds. These pipes are capable of withstanding high pressure and are ideal for underwater applications.
